Toll Gavel United Church was filled this weekend with hundreds of angels. Some were big (human sized) and some were very small, some were sitting or standing, and some (like the giant Angel mobile hung from the ceiling) were flying.
They all looked down upon visitors to the church and on those at the Sunday services.
They were all contributed by groups who use the church, and they made them in a myriad of construction styles.
It was all part of the Church’s celebration for the start of Advent, as everyone prepares for Christmas.
During the morning service we heard some startling facts about how in the Bible, out of the 66 books that make up the Bible Angels are mentioned in over 30 of them – not just those who announced the birth of Jesus to Mary and the Shepherds, but all throughout, from before the time of Moses to the last book of the Bible – Revelation.
It was an unusual but brilliant start to the Christmas season.
