United Make Light Work Of Malet Lambert

After last weeks third victory of the season against club rivals Mill Lane United Blues the Yellows were faced with their hardest task of the season against their closest rivals in the East Riding Girls Football League Malet Lambert.

Straight from the kick off Malet Lambert made their intentions clear as they battled for every ball to make life difficult for the league leaders.

Quickly into the tackle Malet Lambert took the game to Mill Lane United winning the early 50/50 tackles as they looked to cause the upset of the season.Slow to settle Mill Lane United gradually took control and took the lead after 10 minutes when a through ball from captain got striker Marie(Misty)Russell in the clear,quickly getting the ball under control Russell rounded the keeper and put the ball into the empty net.

The next 10 minutes were end to end with both teams creating chances and Mill Lane United were thank full for some strong defence with and Courtney McConville to the fore.Gradually Mill Lane United started to take control with Charlotte Holliday and Morgan Nagee looking dangerous down the right flank and  they hit Malet Lambert with 3 goals in a 10minute spell before half time thanks to 2 goals from impressive midfielder Morgan Nagee and a first goal of the season from substitute Courtney Rusworth to make the half time score 4 0 to Mill Lane United Yellows.

Credit to Malet Lambert who started the second half strongly with Emily Drewery ,Beth Stockdale and Amy Knott showing up well as they battled for the goal that would get them  back into the game.The yellows withstood the pressure with defenders Molly Pluves, Lucy Crockett,Courtney McConville and Amy Radford ably assisted by another faultless display from goalkeeper before exploding into action lead by some strong tackling by midfielder to score  4 more goals to put the game out of Malet Lamberts reach.

Goal number five  was scored by striker Grace Fletcher followed by 2 more from goal machine Emma Smith and another contender for goal of the season from Courtney McConville as she received a ball from Fletcher wide on the left before cutting inside and unleashing an unstoppable 25yard shot for the goal of the game.

So for Mill Lane United their 8th successive league victory maintaining their 100% record against their best opponents of the season so far who chased and harried for the full 70 minutes.

Special mention to Malet Lambert goal keeper Claudia Elliott who was outstanding throughout.Man of the matches for Mill Lane United Yellows Courtney Rushworth who scored her first goal for the team in a solid performance and Amy Radford for a defensive performance full of energy and commitment.
