Whites Beat Blues In The United Derby

Mill Lane United Whites met their younger club mates Mill Lane United Blues in another Beverley local derby.

The Blues were not about to let White’s physical advantage put them off as they fought for every ball, closing their opponents down denying them any space. Whites got their noses in front however when Faye Marris, collecting the ball to the right of the goal just inside the box, smashed a right footed shot into the far top corner of the net. The goal seemed to settle Whites down as they went close with shots from Ella Parker and Evie Barrett hitting the bar and an effort from Chloe Viles hitting the post.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic though as Blues forced three corners but couldn’t convert into goals. Whites increased their lead when Hope Barrett won the ball on the edge of the penalty area before playing in Evie Barrett, who kept a cool head to score. Five minutes before the break Hannah Winter’s perfectly weighted pass split the Blue’s defence for Hope Barrett to make it 3-0 with a clinical finish.

The Blues upped their tempo in the second half with both possession and territorial advantage shared equally between the two teams. Efforts from Whites were dealt with well by Blues keeper Chloe Hakeney, while counter attacks by Blue’s lively and Connie Forward were kept to a minimum by an excellent display in defence by White’s Annabel Laughton. As the half went on the better chances fell to Blues as Gillyon’s fierce shot was well saved by White’s Keeper Olivia Westcott.

It was Blues that had the last say when Gillyon once again fired in a shot on goal from the edge of the box the keeper beat the shot away only for Connie Forward to strike a first time low drive into the net to give Blues a well-deserved goal.

Final Score: Mill Lane United Whites 3 Mill Lane United Blues 1
