Longcroft Student Gets Yorkshire Jets Call Up

A student from Longcroft School and Performing Arts College in Beverley is celebrating after being selected to play netball for the Yorkshire Jets NTL during their forthcoming season.

, who has been playing netball since the age of seven, will join the Jet’s Under 19s team, which consists of twenty of the best plays within the Yorkshire area, for an initial eight week period of intensive training.

Despite this tough challenge, Molly (14) is taking things in her stride. She said: “I’ve been playing netball for seven years and I currently spend around twelve hours practicing a week. I know it’s going to be hard work and will take a lot of commitment, but I’m ready for the challenge and really pleased to be joining the Jets.”

The Yorkshire Jets is one of ten franchises based around the country, which selects and trains the most talented U19 netballers, and is a breeding ground for those who have the potential to play at the very highest level.

Adam King, Longcroft’s Curriculum Leader of PE, is confident that Molly will be an asset to the Jets: “Molly has shown a great amount of commitment to netball over the years and she is one of our star players. As a teacher, it’s always rewarding to see students develop a skill and passion for a particular and then take it onto a higher level like this. She’s a great team player, but also knows the importance of practice and dedication to improve her skills on the netball court, which makes her an ideal player for the Jets.”

This is a great opportunity for Molly, who would like to progress through the leagues as she gets older: “My aim is to keep playing to the best of my abilities and when the time is right make it into the Over 19s league. I really enjoy the challenges of netball and would like a career related to sport – possibly teaching PE or studying physiotherapy.”

Molly also confirmed that her family and friends are proud of her for this achievement and wish her luck over the coming weeks. She also likes to encourage other young people to get involved with sports, explaining: “You need a lot of commitment and practice in Netball, as you do any sport, but the main thing is to enjoy it.”

Everyone at Longcroft wishes Molly luck with her time with the Yorkshire Jets and looks forward to seeing her sporting career go from strength to strength.
