United Stay Top With Crushing Win

Mill Lane United Yellows extended their lead at the top of the U14 East Riding Girls Football League Division 1 with a convincing victory against a spirited North Ferriby side.

When the teams played earlier in the season the Yellows dealt their opponents a 12 nil defeat which the visitors from Ferriby were determined would not to be repeated.

The game started with North Ferriby taking the game to their top of the table opponents ,strong tackling restricting Mill Lanes possession as North Ferriby gave a good account of themselves.

Finally Mill Lane United started to take control and a fine ball out of defence by Courtney McConville found in space, quickly getting the ball under control Smith released Marie Russell into the Ferriby area, credit to the Ferriby keeper who came out of her goal to block the first shot ,but was helpless to prevent a Tonya Storr shot from the rebound that gave Mill Lane United a 1 0 lead.

Ferriby were no going to let the opening goal against them dent their enthusiasm as they continued to play with spirit and put in some tremendous tackles as they tried to out muscle their free flowing opponents.

As most teams have found this season that takes some doing as Mill Lane made it 2 nil after a right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner by Emma Smith after a fine ball out of defence by Courtney McConville. Mill Lane soon made it 3 0 after a right wing run and cross by Charlotte Holliday found Morgan Nagee to score her first goal for the team with a superb finish.

North Ferriby United could have wilted under the pressure ,but they rolled up their sleeves and scored a deserved goal when confusion in the Mill Lane defence resulted in an own goal to make the half time score 3 1 to Mill Lane.

The second half was much the same with North Ferriby working hard as a team, but ultimately the extra class and finishing of Mill Lane saw the second half finish 5 1 to the Mill Lane side with further goals from Marie Russell 2 ,Grace Fletcher and 1 each for Morgan Nagee and Emma Smith to give them both 2 goals in the game and a final score of 8 2 to Mill Lane Yellows.

So for Mill Lane 3 more points and a realisation that their opponents will raise their game against them for the rest of the season.

Man of the matches for Mill Lane Emma Smith for a hard working performance against physical opponents and goal keeper Leah Shalgosky for another confident display with some excellent saves and intelligent ball distribution.
