Crime Down Satisfaction Up

People living in the Humberside area are becoming more confident in the service being delivered to them.

Humberside Police have welcomed the publication of the latest Home Office crime statistics which also show a significant reduction in overall crime in the force area for the eighth consecutive year.

The figures reveal that confidence in the force has increased with more people agreeing the force is dealing with local concerns.

The latest findings from the Crime Survey for England and Wales show 58 per cent of people in the Humberside area agree that the police deal with local concerns (up from 56 per cent last quarter), whilst 56 per cent agree that the police and local councils are dealing with issues (up from 55 per cent).
Furthermore, the Police Authority’s Local Telephone Survey (to August 2012) shows that 87 per cent of residents have confidence in Humberside Police.

Total recorded crime for the 12 months to June 2012 has fallen by 12 per cent across Humberside, as compared to the same period last year, as compared to the national average reduction of six per cent which sees Humberside ranking fourth out of all forces in terms of reducing crime.

Locally the reduction in overall recorded crime was down 12 per cent in North East Lincolnshire, down 11 per cent in North Lincolnshire, down 10 per cent in East Yorkshire and down 14 per cent in Hull.

Forcewide figures also show that violence against the person was down nine per cent, sexual offences was down 10 per cent, robbery was down eight per cent, burglary down 14 per cent, vehicle crime down 20 per cent and criminal damage down 17 per cent.

The only crime categories which saw increases at force level were fraud and forgery, up six per cent and drug offences which were up two per cent.

Humberside Police Deputy Chief Constable David Griffin, welcomed the latest figures and paid tribute to the dedication of officers and staff across the force.

He said: “Crime continues to fall and people living and working in this area should feel safer because of that.

“These reductions in overall reported crime rates have come at a time when we, and all police forces in England and Wales, are facing increasingly tight budgets and have had to make big decisions on how we are best able to deliver a service to the community whilst still reducing spending.”

“The officers and staff working for Humberside Police deserve credit for achieving these positive results despite the uncertainties they face, along with the strength of partnership working with communities, local authorities and other public services and I am confident we will continue to perform in such a way that local people receive the service they deserve.”
