Relax With A Night At The Movies This Autumn

If you’re after an affordable evening out in the run up to Christmas, a night at the pictures fits the bill every time. And film fans have stacks to look forward to this autumn and December, with a stunning variety of new releases in the pipeline, all of which will look and sound so much better on the big screen.

People Like Us (2012) is a great drama starring Chris Pine, Michelle Pfeiffer and Olivia Wilde, and it’s a directorial debut for Alex Kurtzman. The film follows the story of struggling corporate barterer in New York who, while settling his newly deceased father’s estate, finds he has a sister he never knew about, leading both siblings to look again at their perceptions of family and life choices.

And, of course, one of the best new movies to watch out for this autumn is the new James Bond movie, the 23rd in the franchise. Skyfall (2012) stars Daniel Craig, Helen McCrory, Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Judi Dench as M.

Bond’s loyalty to M is put to the test as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, Bond must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Catch Skyfall from late October.

If you’re a fan of the Twilight series, look out for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012) from mid-November, in which Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson reprise their roles as Bella and Edward.

Following the birth of their daughter Renesmee, the Cullens appeal to other vampire families to protect their baby from a wrongful allegation which puts the family in front of the Volturi. They are preparing to fight a crucial battle, in which the protection of their family is at stake…

There’s more fantasy in store much nearer Christmas, from December 14, with the long-awaited release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). The picture stars Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, is directed by Peter Jackson and will make wonderful family viewing.

Curious hobbit Bilbo Baggins travels to the Lonely Mountain with a group of energetic dwarves, in a bid to reclaim a treasure which the dragon Smaug stole from them.

You may also want to keep an eye out for End of Watch (2012), in which Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play two LAPD cops who take pride in both their work and friendship, but one day see their lives come under even more pressure than usual.

These are just some of the treats coming your way between now and the end of the year. So if the price of meals and drinks out is getting too much, consider a good film instead, whether you’re giving the kids a half-term treat or brightening up a dark and chilly November weekend evening.

Equally, in December when it can sometimes seem as though there’s too much going on at once, consider unwinding with a night at the flicks instead.
