FC Beverley Progress In Cup With Away Win In Hull

FC Beverley travelled to East Hull for their first game in the Knock-Out Cup.

All 19 players were back to full fitness and all available for selection for the first time this season.

This gave the management team a decision of who was going to be rested. It was decided the Cook; Straw and Heath would be rested to enable every player in the squad to get as much game time as possible.

The game started with Batemans piling as much pressure as they could on the Beverley defence, however, Alex Stock and worked hard to break down as much play as possible in the centre of the park. After the first 10 minutes of some good play from Batemans, Beverley started to pass the ball better and Sam Tuft added to his tally of goals with a quality finish matching the outstanding ball from Harry Headley.

Beverley pressurised Batemans from then on. This pressure began to crack the Batemans defence and and both getting themselves on the score sheet put Beverley 3-0 up at half time.

The half time break gave Beverley plenty of energy to burn in the second half as they came at Batemans from the off and it wasn’t long before Gill added his second.

Beverley began to play much better than the opposition and some good link up play between Tuft, Gray and Simpson brought Ellis Gray’s superb finish to put Beverley 5-0 up. However, Beverley began to become complacent and Batemans put 2 goals to their name from holes left in the Beverley defence.

However, Gill craved his third goal and with back to goal Tuft fed the ball in before Gill pulled off a turn of pure class and slotted the ball in the bottom corner. This did not mean the game was over though as Batemans refused to give up.

This was until Jack Hebden provided the winning goal with a sweet strike into the top corner. Next week, Beverley face at home which will be a bigger test for Beverley. However, after another good performance Beverley will be hoping to take all 3 points.

FC Beverley: Norton, Stanforth, Giblin, Thurston, Woods, Tuft, Simpson, Stock, Headley, Collingwood, Gill. Subs: Langdon-Hill, Hebden, Aistrop, Gray, Harman
