Mill Lane Uinted Blues Make It Back To Back Wins

Blues arrived at Ferriby looking to build on their victory against Brayton the previous week in the East Riding Girls Football League.

From the kick off Mill Lane knew they were in for a tough match as Ferriby produced a typical workmanlike performance to deny their younger opponent’s time and space on the ball. The first ten minutes saw the play switch from end to end as both teams battled for territory and possession.

However, the visitors began to take control of the match as Olivia Nassau marshaled the defence, containing the Ferriby forwards, allowing & to press further forward pinning Ferriby into their own half. With 15 minutes gone the pressure finally told as slick passing from the visitors played Millie Sharp in on goal, and from the right-hand side of the area, she blasted the ball past the keeper to give her side the lead.

Ferriby never gave up and following a spell of pressure Lillian Shyngle spun on the edge of the area and struck a half volley which flew past into the back of the net. That set back didn’t stop Mill Lane pushing forward and in a dominant final ten minutes of the half, Millie Sharp netted her second and Natalie Bell opened her account to leave the home side trailing 3.1 at the break.

Mill Lane United started the second half knowing the game was anything but over, as Ferriby had the advantage of kicking downhill with the wind at their backs. But, in a disciplined performance, the visitors didn’t allow Ferriby a single goal scoring opportunity as the entire team worked tirelessly to close their opponents down allowing Jessica Wright to mop up any balls over the top easily.

Half way through the half, Millie Sharp settled the match with her hat-trick goal, after powering her way through three challenges and coolly slotting the ball past the keeper to cap a fine individual performance.

At the final whistle, the visitors left the field with a hard fought three points following a superb team performance. Parent’s player of the match was awarded to Cordelia Cavill, who was superb in defence, whilst the manager’s player of the match went to Millie Sharp for a magnificent performance of pace, power and tenacity.
