Thrilling Match Went To The Braves

This fixture is always a tough battle for Beverley Braves and today was no exception.

and Dylan Clifford set the tone with charges that stunned the opposition. Big hits went in from all players and Harry Bell bravely once again held onto the loose ball. The energy was intense. Beverley got into gear and started passing the ball around in true Braves style.

It was lined up for Harry Bulleyment to deliver and he did just that using all his power and strength to force his way over the line and give the edge to Beverley. Dockers hit straight back though showing real determination but Clifford relieved the pressure with a charging run making impressive yards. Once Beverley were near the home sides line they upped their game and quick hands released who accelerated over to score, Owen Harrison converting well.

Dockers hit back though and only a fantastic tackle out on the wing from halted their attack. Conor Egan did a brave run to take away pressure from Beverley’s line under immense pressure and Darren Benstead was massive in both attack and defence as always. The whistle blew for half time with the visitors leading 0 – 10.

The start of the second half saw a massive improvement from the Dockers and their determination put Beverley under pressure. They made impressive yards and held Beverley tight in their own half showing some fantastic defensive tackles. Beverley also made it difficult for themselves when mistakes were made to give possession back to Dockers and they paid the price when a superb early kick caught the Braves off guard and the home side scored an excellent try.

They kicked the goal which brought the game within four points and anyone’s for the taking. Tackles were strong from Beverley though throughout the match and this did not falter. Nathan Collinson, Tom Woods and Owen Harrison worked so hard and James McGahey and made some stunning tackles to halt the attacks.

Then the game was Beverley’s as a genius pass from Keegan Bartlett released a sprinting Wardill from half way and he found a gap and despite being chased all the way to the line could not be caught.

Bartlett secured the two points well. Confidence was high now and not long after Beverley added further points as a clever pass found a supporting Benstead who ran the ball over with a smile for a brilliant try, Bartlett converting well and the whistle blew on another thrilling encounter finishing 6 – 22.

Man of the match went to Joe Wardill whose try turned the game.
