Beverley’s Boxers Enjoy A Successful Night At The Bonus Arena

Paul Kershaw described the performance of fighters from St Paul’s Boxing Academy as ‘Great’ as the Hull based club once again put on a cracking night of professional boxing that included a special appearance of Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell.

When Samir Mouneimne walked into the Bonus Arena the roof nearly came off. Last time Samir was fighting at this venue, he went the distance, on Saturday Samir showed another side to his boxing as he dispatched Ignac Kassa in the first round with a display of devastating power and speed.

Looking better than in previous fights Samir went on the attack from the start not letting Kassa get into the fight at all, flooring his opponent twice giving the referee little choice but to step in and end the fight at the end of the first round.

Samir was fighting no patsy either; Kassa has fought current Commonwealth and IBF Inter Continental champion Karl Frampton, but he was simply outclassed by the St Paul’s welterweight sending a clear message to other fighters in his division.

Trainer Mike Bromby was delighted with Samir’s performance and believes he can go all the way, he said;

“Samir is showing the dedication which can take him to the very top. Ability wise the sky is the limit for massive honours.”

With an army of travelling fans, Beverley’s very own Louis Hubbard went into battle, his second outing as a pro he looked in great physical shape. Ricky Lee, no surprise, could be heard over everyone else in a packed Bonus Arena giving Hubbard his words of encouragement.

This fight was to be no push over; Hubbard’s opponent was a strong, and he had to work hard for his victory, Louis said after the fight he had to change to a less aggressive style and rely more on his boxing talents to win the fight, it worked.

Bromby commented on Louis’s performance saying;

“His opponent was a very experienced fighter that has competed for the Central Area Title.”

“Louis will be a force to reckon with, and title success can follow.”

was backed by a number of players from Beverley RUFC, including club captain as he took on Karl Bell, a monster of a man.

An unfazed and well supported Collingwood showed his class in an exhibition bout as he continues to build his professional career.

came through a tough test against a more experienced fighter from Birminham. Going the full six rounds, Zak showed a good variety in his style throughout the contest before being declared the winner on points.

Cameron Stevenson, came into this fight with perfect 3 – 0 professional record, Stephenson looked focused on the task in hand as he climbed through the ropes and into the ring.

Bobbing about the fighter mouthed the words as the compare announced to the crowd his record, a popular fighter with fan’s Stevenson looked incredibly focused on the job in hand.

Fighting at Welterwieght and fighting a natural light middleweight Stevenson pounded the body of his opponent with crunching body shots, winning the bout on points.
