Grantham & Smith Help Beverley To Victory

’s 2nd XI cemented their place at the top of the table, with a comprehensive 9 wicket win over local rivals 1st XL on Saturday.

The game was reduced to 40 overs per side due to a shower before the game started.Nick Robinson got the prized wicket of Paul Clappison early on and the home side never really recovered.

Beverley’s all round bowling and fielding display was excellent. Peter Parnaby, back in the second team fold after a couple of weeks with the first team took 5 -34 from his 12 over stint.

He was well supported by 2-16 and Matt Smith 2-18. At tea the heavens opened once again which delayed the start of the second innings. The innings eventually started and Beverley lost an early wicket.

Now in thick fog, the returning skipper and Ollie Grantham set about the home attack. They put together a great partnership, with Grantham in particular looking in great form. The pair took Beverley home with 9 wickets and 17.4 overs to spare.

Smith finished on a chanceless 56 not out and Grantham 63 not out.

The victory took the Beavers within touching distance of promotion as second placed Tadcaster lost a close game to Londesborough Park.
