Beverley Grammar Scoops Regional Competition

Boys aged 11-14 from STEM Club (Science Engineering and Maths) Club swept the board in a regional technology competition held at Elvington Air Museum, York. The Big Bang STEM event attracts many schools from across the region from as far as Nottingham to Scarborough.

The Solar Boat Challenge involved students designing and making four different types of solar powered boats to enter in four different classes of time trials. Incredibly BGS came home with three trophies – winning three of the four possible time trials.

“The boys faced immense competition from the region’s best state and private schools. I’m truly delighted the students and staffs hard work has paid off” said Mr Gosling Head of the Technology department.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the students – a great result for them all” said Mr Oldridge, Design and Technology teacher and the STEM club co-ordinator.

Grahame Hodson, headteacher added “We firmly believe in nurturing young engineering talent, helping students realise their full potential at every opportunity. It’s an outstanding result from the Beverley Grammar School teams ”
