Beverley Braves Enjoy Positive Results Across Two Age Groups

On another wet Summer day, the Beverley Braves U8s started in typical fashion, Jacob Parkinson driving through the heart of the Wyke defence leaving Samuel Shrimpton space to run down the line to score the opening try.

Defensively Beverley were a little slow to get going and as a result Wyke managed to exploit some half tackles to score two tries of their own to open up a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half started with a more organised Beverley defensive line and on the first Wyke attack, and Beau English combined to end a promising move. Beverley had obviously listened to their half time talk from their coaches and began defending as a team and, as a result Wyke were not able to score another try in the match.

In attack the Braves were starting to reveal a greater confidence in their passing and running game. Most noticeable were the runs of George Youngs, Matthew Cook and Antonio Seminara, taking their passes on the run and making steady progress into the opponent’s half. A second try was deservedly added to bring the score levels after a crowd pleasing sidestepping run from Timothy Heng set up Samuel Shrimpton to score his second.

Samuel Shrimpton completed his hat trick using his pace to cut through the Wyke defence and score in the corner. Having worn down the opposition the Braves finished the game with two more tries as Jacob Parkinson and Louix Gorman used their strength and power to break through tackles to score the Braves 4th and 5th tries to wrap up the 5-
2 win.

The top tackler trophies were awarded to Jacob Parkinson and William Wilson, and the man of the match trophy was awarded to Jared Goforth for his all-round performance.

The team comprised Beau English, Antonio Seminara, Oliver Egan, William Parkinson, Matthew Cook, Jacob Parkinson, Jared Goforth, William Wilson, George Youngs, Roberto Seminara, Timothy Heng, Joel Newton, Mackenzie Beckett, James Marr, Louix Gorman and Samuel Shrimpton.

Under 10s

The Beverley Braves under 10s not only secured their second win in a row but kept a clean sheet for the second week as well. The boys have been training hard to improve their defence, and this is starting to pay off with a great workload in defence from Oliver Loney and , who topped the tackle count and Will Sanford; whose defensive efforts earned him the man of the match award.

Wyke perhaps deserved a little more for their efforts, they never gave up and their defence was just as mean in the first half with no points scored until the final minute of the first half. Beverley had looked strong in attack in the first half with testing runs from Thomas Cohen and Joseph Dennis only snuffed out by strong Wyke defence. William Kirkup went close before being tackled into touch on the right-wing whilst at the back, Dylan English continues to impress taking a high ball well on one occasion and running a well weighted Wyke kick out of his own in goal area on another.

Harry Newton distributed the ball well from acting half-back and caused problems with his scoots whilst Matthew Hutchinson and worked hard taking the ball up the field. Luke Dobbie looked dangerous with the ball in hand and when he straightened up after a cross field run, he had enough pace to squeeze in at the corner, Marcus Walker’s conversion making it 6nil on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Tom Marr took the short kick off allowing the Braves to regain possession, on the third tackle ’s dash before off loading to Henry Hughes, who crashed over for a try which he also converted.

and Ryan Deane worked well to keep the defence tight on the left which set the stage for the Braves to score two more tries, both from Walker. The first was a length of the field effort on the first tackle after Wyke had gone very close themselves whilst the second came after he dummied to kick on the sixth tackle before stepping through the defence to score. The first was converted by Marr the second by English. Final score 24nil.
