Two Beverley AC Runners Carry The Olympic Torch

Two members of had their moment to shine when they took part in the Relay in East Yorkshire last Monday.

Neil Sergeant was honoured for his years of dedication as coach to the club’s junior section and carried the torch through Bridlington where he was cheered on by his protégés; club chairman, Rob Reid, was nominated for his dedication as a PE teacher at St Charles RC Primary School in Hull and carried the torch through Filey.

20 members of Beverley Athletic Club helped to marshal the torch relay as it passed through Beverley by acting as ambassadors. Instead of wearing their usual blue and yellow club colours, the ambassadors donned special commemorative polo shirts and baseball caps which were provided by generous club member John Breckon.

Thousands of people lined the relay route in East Yorkshire. It was an amazing day for the torchbearers and the ambassadors, a unique experience which they will never forget.
