Oldest Beverley 10K Runner Receives Special Prize

The oldest finisher in the recent Hall Construction Group has been presented with a special prize to mark his achievement.

Seventy-five year-old Ivor Michaels was presented with a commemorative tankard by officials from Beverley Athletic Club outside the Age UK shop in Beverley. “This year’s official race charity was Age UK,” said club president Andy Tate, “so we decided to award a special prize to the oldest runner.”

Mr Michaels was the only runner in the 75 – 79 category. He completed the testing 10k course in 1:21:24 but he was not the last to finish. He was followed across the line by several younger runners half his age!

The last time that Mr Michaels had run a race was more than 40 years ago but he was persuaded to take up the again recently by a good friend, Gordon Jibson of City of AC. He thoroughly enjoyed the 10k in Beverley and is now considering entering the Walkington 10k on 6 July.
