United Qualify For Regional Futsal Finals

Yellows qualified for the regional futsal finals in Sheffield with a superb 1 0 victory against the Hull College Development Centre.

All six teams played each other once with the top four sides going into the semi finals .Group winners were the Hull College Development Centre with six victories out of six closely followed by Mill Lane United Yellows whos only defeat came with a last minute 2 1 defeat by Hull College.

The other two semi final places went to Malet Lambert blues and Yellows and the two teams to miss out were Mill Lane United Blues and Preston.

The semi finals went to form with comfortable victories for Hull College and Mill Lane United yellows 6 1 and 3 0 respectively.

So a thrilling final was anticipated Mill Lane United United the u14 League champions ,Tesco winners against The Hull College Development Centre made up of most of top local players in the area.For the Mill Lane United players their was plenty of motivation players previously been at the development centre ,players been invited to attend but carried on playing in the girls league and a late defeat in the earlier group game.

The game did not disappoint with both side giving their all with some thunderous tackles and some skilful passing football. Mill Lane United had the early chances and deservedly took the lead after 3 minutes with a great right foot finish from Emma Johnston.

With Tonya Storr and ,Emma Smith and Emma Johnson harrying and competing for every ball the Development Centre were restricted to rare long range efforts.

Mill Lane United continued to dominate and create the better chances with both Emma Smith and Emma Johnson unlucky not to extend Mill Lane Uniteds lead.As the time ticked by The Development Centre tried for one last time to equalise ,but two excellent saves by stand in goal keeper Charlotte Holliday kept them at bay.

The final whistle blew and Mill Lane United celebrated a memorable victory full of skill ,commitment and desire against opponents who this year played in the boys league feeling the local east riding girls league would not test them enough.The myth well and truly buried Mill Lane United can now look forward to representing the East Riding in the regional finals at Sheffield later this month.

Special mention for Mill Lane United yellows to who did not get on in the final ,but made a telling contribution during the earlier rounds and Charlotte Holliday for volunteering to play in goal and made several tremendous saves.

For Mill Lane United Blues a tremendous effort throughout as they battled with only 5 players after 2 players pulled out at the last minute.
