Beavers Seconds Book Place In Merrit League Final

On Saturday Beverley 2nd team faced a strong Pocklington team at knowing that a place in the Merit League Final awaited the winner. In previous league fixtures there has been very little separating the two sides so a close game was expected.

Beverley started the faster out of the two sides and led 10 – 0 after 20 minutes. Full back Alex Nightingale scoring a great individual try despite question marks over the grounding. Despite Beverley’s early dominance Pocklington hit back with a try just before half time to make the half time score Beverley 13- 7 Pocklington.

However in the second half Beverley struggled to contain the Pocklington pack, despite strong defending through the likes of Chris Bradshaw and Sam Courtney Pocklington managed 2 second half try’s meaning they led 17- 13 going into the final 5 minutes.

Beverley realised they needed to raise their game, after a number of strong drives and a Disallowed try the Beverley pack managed to win a scrum against the head, creating quick ball enabling Jack Howdel to run in under the posts for a converted try.

Beverley held on to win 20 – 17 taking them into the final against last years opponents Malton next Sunday at 4pm kick off.
