MP Backs The Bid To Bring The Tour De France To Yorkshire

Beverley and Holderness is backing the campaign to bring the opening stages of the 2016 Tour de France to Yorkshire.

The cycling race is the world’s largest annual sporting event, watched by 88 million around the world. Hosting the race in Yorkshire would provide a multi-million pound boost to the economy and showcase the county across the globe.

Top name cyclists Mark Cavendish and Ben Swift have already lent their support. People are being encouraged to visit the bid’s website (www.yorkshire.com/back-the-bid) to pledge their support.

Plans are being made for the Tour de France organisers to visit Yorkshire and examine the proposed route.

Graham said

“The Tour de France is one of the world’s top sporting events, and hosting it in our county would be fantastic. In 2007 the race visited and the South East, bringing with it a huge boost in and media coverage.”

“I am sure that we would benefit in the same way, especially if the Tour came to East Yorkshire”.

“I urge people to get online and pledge their support for this fantastic opportunity to showcase what Yorkshire has to offer to the world. I’m sure our local clubs would really get behind the event and reinforce East Yorkshire as a major cycle racing centre.”
