Gritty Effort Pays Dividends

Right from the whistle the crowd knew this match was going to be a physical one as Dockers initial attack was a massive charge down the middle of the pitch. Their strength was obvious and the battle had commenced. The response from the Braves was a charge from Darren Benstead just as strong and he was rewarded as Keegan Bartlett kicked another superb ball unnerving the Dockers line for Benstead to pick up and force his way over superbly to open the scoring.

The tough Hull side were not phased and muscled up to bounce straight back with a try of their own. This was definitely an exciting game to watch as it was a physical challenge with two very evenly matched sides. A high kick from Dockers was taken cleanly and skilfully by Harry Bell giving possession back to Beverley. improves week on week with his momentous runs and had an excellent game tackling players ferociously.

Beverley needed these tackles as Hull were attacking strongly and with sheer determination they scored to edge them into the lead after a powerful spell. Beverley had to raise their game as sets of constant tackles tires the players and they achieved this from another high kick which found the hands of Benstead who ran over another excellent try. Confidence was now firmly back with the Braves and Joe Wardill edged them into the lead with an outstanding run down the wing from his own half shaking off players who dared to get in his way. Half time 12 – 10 to Beverley.

Beverley now knew what they had to do in the second half. Callam Bielby had an outstanding game today for Beverley tackling his heart out. Jay Black passed the ball around well and Wardill added to his tally with another speedy run down the wing forcing his way through and diving over under the sticks. Another Braves attacking set saw all rounder James McGahey effortlessly release Dylan Clifford to run so hard at the defensive wall of Dockers and turn inside to score a brilliant try.

With points secured Beverley now had this game but Dockers never gave up and had Beverley defending again and they managed to find a gap out wide in Beverley’s wall to score. In a tough physical battle Beverley muscled up well with big tackles being made from many players like Harry Gary, Owen Harrison and man of the match Callum Officer who every week is outstanding.
