Capturing The East Riding Photography Competition Winners Announced

Prizes have been awarded to the top photos in the exhibition ‘Capturing the East Riding: Photographs from the Community’, now on view at Beverley Art Gallery until Saturday, 24 March.

Organised by the East Riding Cultural Partnership, Capturing the East Riding comprises 100 photographs, which depict life in towns, villages and countryside over the four seasons. The photos capture people at work and at play, fascinating flora and fauna, landmarks and landscapes and interesting scenes of everyday life, showcasing the uniqueness of the East Riding.

One of the winners Andy Holey from Beverley told HU17.net;

“I took two pictures at a day out at the Hotham Ploughing completion during September 2011.”

“It’s shows ploughing the way it was done in the past. I thought I’d submit these into the competition as I see East Yorkshire and an agricultural area within the UK. After I submitted my pictures I didn’t give it second thought and one day out of the blue I got an email from the organisers saying my photographs had got through to the final round and they will be in display in the Library along with all the other winners.”

“It was only 2 or 3 days before the event I got another email saying my picture had won one of the prizes and was listed as one of the top 20. It was enough for me to get my photographs displayed for all to see and enjoy but to win one of the prizes was another thing.”

Prizes have been awarded to the best photos in the exhibition. The winners were revealed at the preview event earlier this month, which was attended by over 300 people. However, they are all linked because of the originality and vision they have shown and we were genuinely impressed by the amazing high-standard of the entries.”
