Leading International Crime Writer Peter Robinson Comes to Beverley Festival

Once again, the festival welcomes back international best selling author, Peter Robinson, the author of the DCI Banks novels, the most recent of which is Bad Boy.

Being a fan of folk music, and loving the festival and its great atmosphere, he will be visiting the festival for the third time, this year, where he will be joined by leading folk legend Martin Carthy.

His novels have been translated into over twenty languages, and he has won a number of international awards, including the MWA Edgar, the CWA Dagger in the Library and numerous others. In 2011, the first series of DCI Banks showed on ITV, starring , and Peter was inducted into The International Hall of Fame. His latest book, a non-series novel titled Before the Poison, was a number one UK bestseller. He has published two collections of short stories, Not Safe After Dark and The Price of Love.

Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, for over 40 years, and is one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.

For the festival, Peter has written a special short story, specifically fitting for the festival weekend, and will be reading this interspersed with songs and music by Martin Carthy. A partnership made in Heaven!

“I’ve been a folk music fan and a Waterson/Carthy fan for many years and was thrilled at the opportunity of performing a story with Eliza Carthy’s music on several occasions over the last few years, two of them at the Beverley Folk Festival.”

“This year I’ll be doing something similar with Martin Carthy, and I’m very excited about that. I also get to wander around and listen to some really terrific singers and musicians.”

“What better way to spend a weekend?” said Peter Robinson

The event will appeal to crime novel lovers as well as music fans and promises to be a sell out. Some of Peter’s books will be available on sale and for signing after the event.
