Pride, Points And Home Advantage Point To Hodgsons

Beverley Town and Hodgsons FC will once again go head-to-head at Longcroft School this weekend with pride and points up for grabs.

The sides have met twice in recent times. with each team winning a game, although this weekend’s Humber Premier League fixture will be the first time the clubs have met in the league since the Tanners were promoted.

Ten points separate the rivals in the table. Town have been far stronger in the league, winning six of their games compared to Hodgsons’ two.

But both sides have poor defensive records, conceding 63 goals between in the league alone this season. So no defensive battle will this be!

Hodgsons FC gaffer Lee Hastings wants to finish above Town and a defeat on Saturday would see Town open up a 13 point gap, possibly ending all chances of achieving his goal and dealing a mortal blow to Hodgsons’ hopes of staying up.

Confidence, however, is high in the Hodgsons camp following last week’s superb performance against second-placed Sculcoates Amateurs in the Whitehead Fish & Chips .

The Tanners will also see the return of key players, as their classy number 10 Adam Foster and playmaker are both back and available for selection.

And Hastings has been given a further boost by the arrival of Dean Chilcott, as the shortest man to manage a team in the Humber Premier League once again works his magic in the transfer market.

Chilcott, who has played for and more recently the Humber Colts, brings some much-needed experience to the Tanners’ team and could make his debut in the derby.

Former HU17.net writer , speaking from his Heywood retreat, believes form counts for nothing and that home advantage is everything.

He said: “Home advantage is a huge factor in derby games and I expect Hodgsons FC to use their superior passing game on the slick 3G surface to mesmerise Beverley Town.

“I say 2 – 1 to the Tanners.”

Rob Hunter, chairman of the Humber Colts, is also backing Hodgsons FC, tipping them to win 3 – 1.

He said: “We watch a lot of the Tanners games, and after last week’s win over Sculcoates Amateurs and with a number of Colts players on loan, everyone connected with the Humber Colts feels Hastings’ Hodgsons will win a tight encounter.”

Sean Barber has been given the task of this match and keeping players in check.

The game kicks off at 2pm and is being played on the Longcroft School 3G pitch.
