Perfect Performance For Braves

Beverley Braves were under pressure today to not only maintain last week’s performance but also to settle a score as Wyke came confident to the match after a victory in a friendly in the summer months.

The coaches knew from the first few minutes whether Beverley were up for the challenge and the answer was a resounding yes as hard tackles hit the away team from the off. They did not have to wait long for the opening try as Beverley got into their stride and their signature passing move along the line reached full back who scooted around the edge of the Wyke defence and down the wing to put the ball under the sticks.

Next Dylan Clifford twisted and turned through the Wyke defence expertly missing the tackles to score himself under the posts.

From the restart Beverley did not hang back and continued to eat away at the opposing team. Keegan Bartlett, and Jay Black are formidable in the middle as they control the matches with stunning performances as their confidence grows passing the ball around opening up the best defences. From one such passing move the ball found Wardill who released Harry Gray who got caught just before the line but had the presence to flick the ball back to Wardill who charges over.

Versatile player Kurt Pelham was outstanding again in every position that he was called upon to play and together with the big hard working props Jamie Branton and Callum Officer not much got through the middle today and they were both involved in the attacking build up that released Owen Harrison to make a pin point pass to who gave the biggest smile to the coaches faces as he broke through tackles, stepped inside dodging a tackle that would have put a lesser man into touch and still had the energy to accelerate over the line for a fantastic try that he should be very proud of.

Harrison capped this off with a magnificent kick from out wide which any Super League player would be envious of.

After a lengthy lay off due to several injuries Bailey Foulston came back eager and running hard showing he was definitely not shy of the ball and gained valuable yards on many occasions and was a force to be reckoned with. Harvey Lazenby used his passing moves to release players and Black from acting half scooted several times to catch out the Wyke players.

Wyke had periods throughout where they pressured the Beverley line and the Braves should be applauded for the defence that held tight and communicated so effectively. Clifford added to the points tally as he broke through to score his second try with his usual ferocity and Wardill followed not long after as he repeated his earlier try running at speed around the outside of the players to add his third to the game and the whistle blew 36 – 0 and a good half for Beverley.
The second half saw Beverley coming out just as aggressive as at the start of the match. From a Wyke kick Branton stuck his leg out superbly preventing the ball from going dead and Bartlett dived on it and from this Gray managed to break free and accelerated at such speed up the pitch fighting off challenges along the way to score under the posts. Another signature sweep from one wing to the other through so many hands saw Harrison score out wide in an excellent team try.

Another infamous move called by Bartlett saw Harrison kick the ball high up the pitch with Wardill and Gray chasing and just as you thought the ball was going into touch, Wardill kicked it back inside and dived on the loose ball to score.

Pelham also made his own formidable run down the line and from the massive yards gained the ball was kicked long across the other side. A chasing Wardill, just as the ball was going out across the back line flicked the ball back, as seen on the television at the weekend, and dived brilliantly on the ball to score for Beverley.

The final try of the match came as a hat trick for Clifford to make the score 60 – 0 and the match called to a close early. This was the best match by far for Beverley as they put into practise all that had been taught, their defence was awesome and the big strong pack did so much work in the middle to open up paths for the racing snakes out wide. Man of the match for an immense try went to Conor Egan.
