In a closely fought derby Mill Lane United came out on top in a great match. Although at the opposite ends of the table both teams were well matched which resulted in an exciting competative match. Mill Lane United started well putting the Phoenix defence under pressure only to be thwarted by excellent defending by the dependable backline of Molly Lunn and Molly Reaney.
Hope Barrett was directing play for Mill Lane United with some excellent passing whilst Katie Wood, Harmony Wilde and Chloe Cook were running their socks off in midfield for the Phoenix.
Mill Lane United pressure paid off when an excellent corner flew accross the Phoenix goalmouth striking an unfortunate Phoenix player and flying into the home teams goal. The Phoenix rallied with three substitutes making an immediate effect.
A rasping drive from Amelia Creaser rattled the Mill Lane United post and driving runs from Isabelle Young and Maddison Dale caused Mill Lane United problems. However it was
Mill Lane United that went into half time two goals up. A quick throwing sent into the Phoenix box was controlled by Hope Barrett who slotted the ball away clinically. The Phoenix came out for the second half full of confidence going all out for a goal.
Mill Lane United continued to play well and create further chances and were unlucky when a well hit shot rebounded back off the bar. Ellie Mcmillan and Millie Gray were in instrumental in some excellent Mill Lane United moves but it was the
Phoenix that managed to pull a goal back. A great run by Mia Richardson and pass set up Caitlin Poole whose shot went into the lane goal off a defender. The phoenix continued to push for the equaliser but just could not break Lane down. An excellent match overall from two Beverley sides who provide the town with a positive future in this age group.
Player of the match for the Phoenix was goalie Holly Woodhouse who is improving with every game. Hope Barrett was named player of the match for Lane for a great all round performance.
