Beverley Host Fellow Strugglers Altrincham In Must Win Game

Altrincham Kersal are the visitors to Beaver Park this Saturday for what is an important game for Beverley RUFC. It is important that the Beavers win and win well to avoid being cast adrift at the bottom of the table.

Altrincham are struggling at the bottom with Beverley and although neither club is far behind those around them in terms of points at the moment, they will both be anxious to start to make inroads up the table.

Beverley’s injury problems have been well documented and there is no benefit in labouring the point any further. It will only be a matter of a couple of weeks before that situation starts to ease but, against team also struggling the Beavers need to kick start their season on Saturday.

Coach James McKay said today,

“Last weekend against a very strong Birkenhead Park side, away from home, we scored 15 points and looked very good whilst attacking.”

“Unfortunately we let in some soft tries as a result of woeful defending and we need to tighten that area of our game up considerably.”

“Our injured players are making progress towards recovery and, once we return to something like a full strength squad, I am confident that we will start to climb the table.”

“That is by no means a reflection on those players who have stepped in. They have, without exception, done a marvellous job for us and will certainly continue to do so in the future.”

“However, it is just as  important for their education to have experienced players playing alongside them as it is for Beverley to have their key players back.”

“Once we arrive at this situation, we will have a very strong squad and I will get some sleep at night!”

Late fitness tests are required on several players and the squad will not be named until after training on Thursday night.
