Braves Charge To Victory Against Old Rivals Cottingham

These non stop tackles forced a scrum with head and feed to Beverley Braves and from this a lovely passing exhibition through many hands saw receive and burst through the Cottingham defence and place the ball down over the white wash to open the scoring.

Some outstanding moves followed in the middle of the park as the Braves confidence grew and this culminated in feeding a stunning inside ball to who slipped through the tackles to score under the uprights. From the kick off McGahey caught the ball cleanly and glimpsed a gap down the wing. He accelerated down the line from his own half and could not be caught, pulling away from the Tigers and placing the ball down to score an outstanding individual try. The Braves had a scrum in their own half, MacGahey released Wardill with an excellent pass and Wardill was off, breaking through tackles and scoring again under the posts.

Beverley were on a high but Cottingham continued to battle hard and tackle well. A long kick from the restart put pressure on Beverley Braves’s line and the Tiger’s capitalised on their possession by scoring a good try to bring Beverley Braves back down to earth and a half time score of 20 – 6.

After the reality check, Beverley Braves came out fighting again. The playmakers McGahey, Jay Black and Keegan Bartlett were outstanding today releasing accurate, clean passes and kicking superb balls for the backs to chase. Callum Officer was again a powerhouse in the middle, Jamie Branton tackled with his usual ferocity, Harry Bullyment had some good attacking runs and Harrison battled his heart out with some superb .

Flowing moves again released Wardill to power his way over the line after breaking the Tigers tackles. Another attacking move saw Harvey Lazenby give a fantastic pass to Tom Woods who sprinted down his wing to score an excellent try out wide. Harrison kicked from the wing perfectly to edge the game away from the claws of the Tigers.

An excellent game was rounded off when Clifford put his head down and pushed aside any Cottingham player who got in the way to score and finish the game 46 – 6. Man of the match was James McGahey who, again, had an outstanding game of rugby both in attack and defence.
