Beverley Town Football Club: The Season So Far

With Beverley Towns first team without out a fixture last Saturday, the Club can look back at the start of the season and review its progress so far.  The first eleven have had a promising start to the season, winning 5 out of 7 games, notching up 15 points and positioning themselves 5 points off the top of the league with a game in hand.

The management team of and Ross Cording have worked hard to integrate new players into the squad, and really pushed the team to play a quick passing game with more attacking flair.  During pre season a number of players left the club to play their elsewhere, and pundits thought this might have a negative effect on Towns performances.  However credit must go to Dave Walton for recruiting well and bringing in experienced, quality players, who have undoubtedly strengthened the squad.

With players moving on it also provides the clubs younger players a chance to shine, something Chairman Raul Lempriere is keen to endorse as he commented

“We are very encouraged by the start all three of our teams have made to the 2011/12 season and have been particularly delighted by players progressing though our teams.”

“A number of younger players have been given the opportunity to play higher level football this season, and they have really grasped their opportunity with both hands.”

“We are very lucky as a Club to have so many exciting young players coming through the ranks and we look forward to the rest of what looks like being a very promising season for the Club.”

Off the pitch the club continue to grow.  The management committee has worked hard to raise much needed funds, and events like the Pub fives and the Golf day have provided a platform for the club to build on.

Permanent new dugouts are currently being built up at Norwood, and a number of hoardings have been sponsored by local companies that will be displayed around the pitch.  Local printing firm Avanti design have donated the club with 50 training shirts and the club continue to build relationships with the local community.

The next fundraising event will see the club hold a race night on saturday 19th November up at Norwood Recreation Ground.  The event starts at 7pm and should be a great night out and everyone is welcome.  The club would particularly like to invite all those that watch the team on a Saturday afternoon, along with past players and officials to come along and enjoy a fun night and raise some much needed funds for the club.

Back on the pitch Towns first eleven take on Hodgsons in the East Riding Senior Cup at Longcroft this Saturday, 2pm KO.  It is the first time the teams have met this season and should be keenly fought contest.  Supporters are urged to get there early as a large crowd is predicted for this local derby.
