Organised by the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, awards are split into eight categories ranging from “Start Up Business of the Year” to “International Business of the Year”. Entrants include sole traders and partnerships through to large employers across the whole region.
This year two businesses from Beverley are entered, Local Transport Projects on Trinity Lane is nominated for “Small Business of the Year” and Perfect 32 Dental Practise on Ladygate is nominated for “Training Business of the Year”.
Geof Humphrey of Nexus Group in Bridlington is one of the main event organisers.
“The awards are a perfect opportunity to give much deserved recognition to local businesses that have really made an impact in the last 12 months.
“Despite the economic climate, we have had a great response to entries and the event once again promises to be a night to remember.”
The black tie event kicks off with a champagne reception, followed by dinner and entertainment from The Poets and Phil Fyer singing Frank Sinatra. Guests this year include Crispin Rolf from the BBC who is to compere the event, Lord Norton of Louth, Ian Kelly and local MP, Greg Night.
Each Year there is a prize auction with all proceeds donated to a deserving beneficiary, which this year is Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough.
Tracy Poskitt Director of Fish and Chips at 149 winner of the “Small Business of the Year” award 2010 said of last year’s event: “Winning the award was fantastic as it was about how we run our business rather than the industry and how we cook fish and chips.
“The publicity from the award has led onto us winning Fish and Chip Shop of the Year. The award has been so valuable to the local area because Bridlington is so well known for its fish and chips.”
