Late Cartwright Strike Earns Tanners A Draw

A last minute strike from Danny Cartwright salvaged a point for Hodgsons FC as they drew with 2 – 2 in the Humber Premier League.

The Tanners were missing who suffered back injury from a ‘freak’ accident. The Central defender strained his back while lifting his auntie’s dog bed though was on the touch line to add his moral support.

Centre forward was also missing away in giving manager Lee Hastings the opportunity to make full use of his squad.

The Tanners went into the match looking for their first win of the season and when they took the lead through early in the first half it seemed they would indeed achieve that elusive victory.

North Cave who were also promoted with Hodgsons FC showed why they are a force to be reckoned with as they battle hard in a very physical match.

With half time approaching fast North Cave were awarded a penalty by referee Darren Whatling which calmly tucked away levelling the match.

The second half was an end to end affair; Karl Wallis came closest to scoring for Hodgsons FC though his header was cleared off the line.

Scott-Jon Tyler, who started the match, was proving to be a menace, his physical presence causing North Cave countless problems.

Tyler was the Tanners key player and displayed some true class in his play throughout the match though was unable to get the goal he deserved.

It was North Cave though who completed the come back to take the lead as Craig Cockin completed his brace by scoring from the just inside the box.

The Tanners were once again looking at coming away from a game with nothing; North Cave continued to push forward when maybe they should have been looking to close the match off.

With less than two minutes remaining a long ball up field Jon Garniss somehow found Danny Cartwright who with the sweetest of touches controlled and turned leaving the North Cave defender for dead.

Running into the box he opened his body up to placing his shot past North Cave keeper Mark Cockin to the sheer delight of gaffer Lee Hastings.
