Brumfield & Moon Lead Beverley To Victory

The 3rd XI welcomed Hull to Norwood looking to build on their recent good run of form.

The toss was won by the visitors and they surprisingly batted first on a used wicket. Beverley’s youthful bowling attack started well following on from last week’s effort. again bowled a pacy spell but with no luck, whilst Guy Brumfield picked up an early wicket.

Beverley introduced new signing from Hull Zingari, 16 year old Tom Haytack, and he continued the good work bowling six overs, 1 for 20. Spinner Matt Smith again bowled tightly conceding a miserly 28 runs from his 12 overs but he was let down by his fielders with two dropped chances although he did pick up one wicket, stumped.

Another 16 year old (8 overs 1-38), bowled well in the middle overs of the innings before Brumfield returned to the attack to pick up another two wickets finishing with figures of 3 for 48 from 12 overs. It was a real up and down display from Beverley from both the bowlers and fielders. Hull closed their innings on 214 for 7 in 48 overs.

Towns reply got off to a perfect start with a massive 170 run opening partnership in just 28 overs between Rich Moon (51) and Club chairman Ali Brumfield (114). Moon, relieved of his wicket keeping duties to concentrate on his batting, made a positive start with some nice shots, whilst his partner was more watchful early on.

However Brumfield reached his 50 first and then accelerated playing some class shots. Hull tried to stem the flow of runs but in this form the Beverley veteran was unstoppable as he raced to his first century of the season.

Moon followed with his 50 shortly afterwards. Both batsmen then fell quickly but with the hard work done it was left to Tim Fordon (11 no) and Matt Smith (17 no) to see Town home with six overs remaining.

It was an excellent batting display by Brumfield supported by Moon which led the thirds to victory and moved them up to fifth place in the Premier League table, only two points behind fourth place.
