Green Dragon Pub Sign Stolen

are appealing for information following the theft of a 12ft wide sign which has been stolen from the Green Dragon Public House in .

At 0815hrs on Saturday 9 July 2011, two men approached the public house and using wheelie bins to stand on, unscrewed a sign from the archway to the pub and removed it.

They then placed the sign, which has the words ‘Green Dragon’ painted in gold lettering on a black background, and placed it in a white van.

The offenders then drove off.

The two men are described as white, middle aged and of a stocky build.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have any information about the theft, or who knows the whereabouts of the stolen sign, to come forward by contacting Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 quoting crime reference 1847653.

  1. Although I in no way condone the theft, I can’t even remember what it looked like to be honest. I mean pub signs on the whole are not very attractive and or artistic anymore, like they used to be. Most of them are cheap and tacky minimal corporate logos, I think Paul should do a page on pub signs, hardly any original type pub signs have survived.
    Remember The Kings Head? It was more like a painted portrait.

  2. I used to sell softare to a small firm in Yorkshire who hand painted signs, its a trade that has long since passed not only on pubs but also on shop signage.

    I will have look at your idea I may a lady who can do this for me 🙂

  3. One of the points of artistic and creative pub signs was so in past times, when the mass population could not read, they knew what pub they were coming to due to the pictoral form of the name…

    …if anything, the education system should be blamed! DAMN YOU LITERACY!
