Beverley Minster Choir Launches New CD

and musicians are launching their first new CD for 10 years on Sunday, July 17th.

And for the first time, it will feature singers from the Minster girls’ choir as well as the traditional men and boys.

Minster director of said this was a perfect time to record a new collection of music in the church.

“There are lots of really good singers in the choir at the moment, some of whom are moving on – either going to university or whose voices are breaking. I thought it would be good to record their quality for future listening, and give them another chance to perform some of our favourite pieces.”

“This is a very historic recording,”

Robert continued.

“There has never been a girls’ choir in the Minster before and this is their first chance to demonstrate what they can bring to an already very fine choral tradition.”

The CD, priced £10 per disc, with all proceeds being split between the choir and Minster general funds, is available via the Minster shop. It contains a mixture of accompanied and unaccompanied singing by the choir, plus music performed on the Minster’s organ. The programme includes sacred music as well as popular hymns.

The launch concert begins at 6.30pm on Sunday 17th July 2011 in Beverley Minster and will feature music from the CD and a choral Mass by Schubert.
