Beaver Slam Five Past Tickton

The got their preseason under way with a comfortable win as they beat AFC Tickton 5 – 0 at Thurlow.

Rob Goulding scored twice while Karl Fisher, and new signing Mike Tarling also got on the score sheet.

The side who parted company with their manager over summer are currently being looked after by Phillip Mathews who has taken up a player manager role.

The Eager Beaver face tough test this season as they will be missing their talisman Rob West who switched Beverley for Canada.

Winger Tom Moore was on the sideline though ruled out any talk on him joining the Eager Beaver saying;

“They have asked me to play though I have committed my future to the .”

“The Colts are placed two leagues higher and I am not ready to take a backward step at this point in my career.”

Matthews refused to comment on the approaches his side have made for Moore over summer instead choosing to focus on today’s win, he said;

“I am not talking about Tom Moore, the player has made his feelings clear and we will respect them.”

“I am very happy, it could have and should have been more.”

“For our first game back we played very well as a team and the new players slotted in well.”

When asked why he (Matthews) was moving the team’s home ground from Longcroft to outside the town he said;

“We really do not want to go though have little choice.”

“There are not enough facilities in Beverley and the council were not very helpful.”

“In order to save the club we had to move, playing in Lecconfield is the best decision for us financially.”
