Beverley Minster & Woodmansey Update for June 2011

1.Priority

Issue: Anti Social Behaviour – Swinemoor Estate

I don’t think it is a coincidence that minor crime appears to rise on the Swinemoor Estate during the hot weather. I personally put this down to the increased consumption of alcohol at BBQ’s, parties etc. I can’t understand why cannot just have a good time without leaving a trail of destruction as they walk home. There have been numerous damage reports, two vehicles have been damaged, one on Queens Road and one on Cherry tree Lane. A male adult has been arrested for causing damage to the communal doors of Queens Road Flats, Beverley. The male has been given a conditional caution and is required to pay £150 towards the damage to the East riding Of Yorkshire Council.

Two juvenile brothers have been summonsed to Court for numerous offences including public order, Breach of ASBO and  theft. This was all part of a crack down on anti social behaviour on the estate where we are looking to target the main ring leaders. It also sends out the message that this behaviour however minor will not be tolerated.

2. Priority

Issue: Commercial Crime – Woodmansey

There has been an increase in crime in the Woodmansey area, which has involved theft of diesel, theft from vehicles and scrap metal theft.  A lot of these offences have occurred in the Tolkenspire Park and the team have already done some good work in this area.  More updates will appear next month as this is a live investigation.

3. Priority

Issue: – Allotment Thefts
Allotment thefts have been on the increase locally where allotments in Driffield, Hornsea and Beverley have all been targeted. The allotment on Sparkmill Terrace has had numerous sheds broken into with garden furniture taken. We are now working closely with the and crime prevention officers to target harden our main allotments.

We have been down at the allotments security coding valuable garden equipment and use colour coding. We also offer this service to members of the public that would like their garden valuables marking.  PCSO 7505 McClarron and PCSO 7700 Mansley are the officers at Beverley to speak to if you would like some advice or assistance re this matter.

4. Offenders brought to justice

A drugs warrant was also executed on 4 Brewery House Mews in Beverley where a small amount of Class B drugs were seized including cannabis and amphetamine. The offender has been summonsed to for the offence of possession of a Class B drug.

6. News and Appeals
(Includes updates on previous priorities if applicable)

The schools have again been looked at as a priority for the Beverley Neighbourhood Team and during the month of July each morning through the week at least one officer has been tasked to attend a school during the morning as children attend the schools and again in an afternoon as vehicles attend in order to collect their children.  This has shown a reduction in the number of parking offences when a presence is paid at the school however due to the number of schools in Beverley the staffing is not present to be able to be at every school each morning and afternoon.

There has been an increase in crime throughout the area, as you can see from the village reports below.  It is important that suspicious vehicles or persons are reported to the police  when seen, particularly if it is at night, when there is less traffic/people around and so, easier for us to find them.  Certain areas are more vulnerable, such as allotments, farm yards, isolated buildings and industrial estates.

Identify theft is another area to be careful off.  Please remove names and addresses from letters before putting in your blue bin.  Ideally, shred bank statements or other sensitive documents or burn them.  It is the same with using the internet, most sites are safe, and are well known names and well established, some sites may not be.  Remember your bank will never ask you for all your account details or your PIN, so if some does ask that, alarm bells should be ringing.

Likewise, as a general rule, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.  You cannot win the Canadian lottery, if you have not entered it, nor is it likely that someone  from Africa wants to process a lot of money through your bank account as there relative has been deposed!  Sounds far fetched, but these requests happen, some even come through to the police email addresses, and people do ring back or make contact.

Woodmansey Village

Thefts have continued at the Tolkenspire Business Park, Beverley where diesel has been stolen from four of the businesses. We are working with the victims and management of the site to again target harden and try and make it difficult for the offenders. There have again been opportunist thefts from within the village where sheds have been broken into, fishing equipment, pedal cycles and the school has also been targeted. We have increased patrols in the area especially on late and night shifts.

We are asking people to increase there security and lock doors and windows which I know is difficult during the hot weather.
