Sharon Mays Leaves NHS East Riding of Yorkshire Board

Chairman has paid tribute to outgoing Non Executive Director who leaves the NHS East Riding Board to take up a new position on the Humber NHS Foundation Trust (FT) Board from today, 1 July 2011.

Sharon has a background in private legal practice, specialising in real estate, and has held the role of a Non-Executive Director at NHS East Riding of Yorkshire for 5 years.

Sharon is currently a Governor at Humber NHS FT, which took over the management of community health care services for the East Riding in April this year. During Sharon’s time with the NHS East Riding of Yorkshire Board she has made an important contribution to some key developments in community health care in the East Riding including:

•         the establishment of eight neighbourhood care teams with nurses, therapists, rehabilitation and social care staff working together to meet the health needs of local patients with long term conditions

•    new health centres in Beverley, Hessle, Brough and Goole
•    ongoing construction of a new £19 million Beverley Community Hospital for the East Riding
•    Wolds View GP Access Centre opening in Bridlington
•    £1.3 million refurbishment and new day hospital for Driffield Alfred Bean Hospital
•    establishment of the replacement branch surgery in

Karen Knapton said:

“In her role as a Non Executive Director Sharon has added significant value to the operation of both the Board and the organisation. Sharon’s familiarity and understanding of our former community services will provide a level of continuity at Board level.

“Whilst I know her skills, commitment and enthusiasm for improving local health and healthcare will be missed, we can be assured that it will not be lost to the East Riding.  Our loss will be Humber’s gain!”
