Ladies Beaten By New Fearnley at Norwood

New Fearnley travelled to on what must have been one of the hottest days of the year. , the Beverley Skipper,  won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a flat unresponsive pitch.

Sarah McDowell was bowled out on the first ball of the innings from a superb ball from Sue White. From then on Beverley fell well short of their potential with Sue White doing a tremendous job with figures of 8 overs 4 wickets for 5 runs.  Only the two youngest players in the team, Amy Hallohan (15) and (16) tried to stop the rot by taking the team from 12 for 7 to 48 for 8.

New Fearnley were set a small target and knew it wasn’t going to be a hard score to beat. This did not deter Hannah Mathews, although feeling unwell due to the heat: she did a fantastic job of dismissing one of the top league players with a magnificent ball, knocking her middle stump flying for only 2.

Charlie Cooper kept up the momentum by having Eleanor Trafford brilliantly caught behind by Sarah McDowell.  However, Jane Ellis and Magan Vokis put together a string of boundaries and good running between the wickets and the points went back to New Fearnley.

Coach Peter Todd said that everyone feels disheartened but the team played well. New Fearnley had fielded a very good side consisting of a good many ex Lancashire and Yorkshire players and when Sarah McDowell was bowled first ball the confidence of all the young team seemed to disappear.

Although not a good day for Beverley Ladies, Peter said that the bowling was good especially Hannah Mathews and Nicola Knapton and that the youngest players showed that Beverley have potential, they just lack experience and need a couple of more senior players.

Not only Beverley but the East Yorkshire & Hull junior teams are always on the look-out new players so any experienced or potential players are welcome to join in training at Beverley Norwood Park on Tuesday evening 6 til 8 where training from experience coaches is given.
