ERYC Say No To Controversial Beagle Breeding Expansion Plan

today turned down a planning application submitted by B&K Universal, based in the village of Grimston, who were seeking planning permission to redevelop its facilities.

There was a heavy police presence in Beverley today, although the protesters who had gathered outside County Hall to protest against testing on animals caused no problems.

Inside County Hall concerns were raised relating to the impact the redevelopment would have on local residents, especially with an increase in accessing the site down a narrow country lane.

A spokesman for B&K Universal addressed the planning committee as he argued that the development on the new buildings would enhance the experience for the animals they currently house and offered assurances the company would ensure any damage to the listed buildings would be restored after the construction.

An argument against the planning application was put forward by an animal rights group spokesman who stressed that the type of activities that B&K Universal were involved with had no place in a modern society. A lawyer speaking for the residents also raised concerns about traffic, pollution and the damage that the negative publicity would do to the village of Grimston.

Before voting the planning committee were advised not to make the decision based on moral grounds but to focus on the report and facts presented by all parties, they duly declined the planning application.
