Local Man to Climb 3 Peaks For Road Safety Charity

Local man Paul Nickerson (32) of North Bar Beverley is raising money for the TOM foundation by climbing the Yorkshire 3 peaks on Saturday 18th June.

The TOM Foundation is based in Yorkshire and supports the families of those killed in road accidents. Paul, and a group of 7 others intend to complete the 26 mile trail , in under 12 hours.

In 2009  alone 2222 were killed on the countries roads and further 24,690 where seriously injured. “Road accidents of any type can have a profound effect on people’s lives.

The TOM foundation supports the people effected.  It also promotes awareness of  the dangers of reckless driving amongst young people to try and cut off the problem at the source” said Paul who’s girlfriend Katie Harper was almost killed on a road accident on the A1079 just outside Beverley .

“The TOM foundation delivers financial support to victims’ families as well as going into schools and colleges to promote responsible driving. It’s a very worthwhile cause that effects so many people”.

The 3 peak challenge is a notoriously gruelling  event. Set in the Pennine range it takes in the peaks of  Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough a total climb of over 7000 ft (2142 meters) and back down again in under 12 hours.

Paul is feeling optimistic about the challenge:  “I’m feeling okay about the climb, it will be tough but I’ve been training and know it will be worth it once we are done.”  All the money raised will go towards promoting safe driving and supporting those effected by deaths on roads.
