Beverley 1st XI Drew With Stamford Bridge

Recent encounters between these two sides have been close fought affairs and this game proved no exception.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. The powerful top three for Beverley made decent starts but failed to capitalize on the good batting conditions.

The returning showed his class with an impressive 93 and he was well supported by Tony Spence (38). Their century partnership put the home side in a strong position going into the final ten overs of the innings but a clatter of late wickets halted Beverley’s progress. Despite the late losses a respectable 227 all out was posted.

Stamford Bridge started confidently, Matt Beckett (55) looking in particular good form for the visitors. Following the departure of Beckett a potential match winning partnership was forged between ex-Fenner pair Steve Sargeant (27) & Will Rhodes (72) making the away side firm favourites as they needed just 60 runs from the final ten overs with eight wickets in hand.

The Introduction of Jamie Mitchell, with fine figures of 4 for 38, and good support from pace man , brought the game back to Beverley. With a series of tight overs and timely wickets the hosts gained a well earned winning draw from an excellent game of cricket. Beverley will need to be at the top of their game when they travel to Woodhouse Grange this Saturday.
