Braves Under 9’s

Beverley Braves u9’s got back to winning ways with a hard fought win against a competitive All Blacks side. The Braves took the lead in their first set of six when the foundation were laid by forwards Oliver Loney, Ethan Rowbotham and man of the match Matthew Hutchinson who all made good yards up the field. This good field position gave Marcus

Walker the space to dummy and race into the left hand corner. Not to be out done the All Blacks hit back straight away and at 1 all it was looking like a high scoring game was on the cards.

Defence then got on top with a number of All Blacks attacks thwarted with last ditch tackling from the Braves. The Beverley lads then began to realise their speed out wide would be the way to win the game with George Lees racing thirty yards to score his first to make it 2-1. Good passing along the line created the space for William Snook to race in at the corner and the Braves were now on top.

With the forwards rotated to bring , and Will Sandford into the action the Braves continued to tackle and run well and ensure a 3-1 half-time lead.

In the second half the Braves continued where they left off, despite an early set-back with the All Blacks scoring to make it 3-2.

Dylan English caused problems with his jinking runs and good distribution from acting half-back whilst Tom Marr had a great run down the left and Lewis Egan was unlucky not to score when going straight from dummy-half on the last tackle. Tom Newton kept up his good defensive record and it was Ryan Deane’s step inside that created a good position from which passing down the line created the space for Oliver Loney to score.

Another break from Snook almost brought his second try, but he was aware enough to slip a pass to the supporting Lees for his second to make the final score 5-2.
