Beverley Town CC 4th XI Beat Sutton 2nd XI by 17 Runs

Beverley Town Club4th started their season under new skipper Rich Simpson with a narrow win over Sutton 2nd XI in a remarkable game at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

Batting first on another excellent wicket Town made a good start through Ash Lord (35) and the returning . Todd, looking as though he had never been away, adopted his usual no nonsense approach and was harsh on anything too full or too short, hitting frequent boundaries with power and style.

He was only beaten when he misjudged a harmless looking full toss and was out for 99. Disappointingly, Town’s other batsmen offered little support and they subsided to 173 all out in just 34 overs.

With 54 overs to overhaul the Town total Sutton looked well set despite losing two early wickets to Iain Sugdon and Sam Welburn with the total on 17. A hundred partnership was ended with a run out engineered by Sam Roe and Todd and when the big-hitting Patterson was out Beverley Town Cricket Clubsaw their chance.

A rejuvenated Town then ran through the opposition batting to bowl them out for 156. What was most remarkable was that the Beverley Town Cricket Clubattack contained four players aged 13 to 17. 13-year old debutant took 2 for 19, Matt Novis 3 for 43 and Roe 1 for 14 while Kes was unlucky not to claim a wicket. Senior bowers Sugdon (2-23) and Welburn (2-28) returned to dismiss the tail-enders with the total on 156 in a memorable finish.
