‘Spring Into Racing’ as First Westwood Meeting Nears

Racing returns to Beverley Westwood in less then two weeks with the curtain-raising ‘Spring Into Racing’ meeting at Beverley Racecourse.

The hotly-anticipated meeting, on Wednesday 6 April, launches a season of quality-racing and quality events at the Westwood.

The biggest draws of the year remain Ladies Day, on Wednesday 10 August, and Night, on Thursday 16 June, last year’s successful addition to the calendar.

On its first staging, Lucky in Love Night brought a certain spice to the Westwood course, with punters given a key or lock with the aim being to find their partner.

Beverley Races Ladies Day is, of course, one of the highpoints of the Beverley social calendar and despite being more than two months off, is already well on the way to being sold out.

The racecourse’s told .net:

“This year’s Ladies day at Beverley will be an all-ticket event and we currently have some tickets left for the Grandstand and Course Enclosures.

“Prices start from just £6 and we are also able to provide discounts on group bookings.”

Other key dates in the calendar include the Family Day, The Hilary Needler Trophy Night and The Brian Yeardley Continental.

The opening of the new season also sees a new rider sponsored under the racecourse’s Kyne-Walker Scholarship scheme, up-and-coming apprentice Julie Burke.

Julie is employed by leading Thirsk-based racehorse trainer Kevin Ryan and has been based in England since July, the 21-year-old having moved here from County Kildare in Ireland.

The scholarship is in its second year having been founded to commemorate apprentice jockeys Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson, who died in a fire in Norton in 2009.
