Spruce Boosts Moley Promotion Charge

The division’s meanest defence was in fine form once again as swept aside Hornsea Town 4-0 to keep up the pressure on the top two and underline their promotion credentials.

With .net snapper Paul Smith photographing at a cat show, it was left to his number two to do the honours and he was treated to a display of no-nonsense defending and quality finishing with Molescroft finishing comfortable winners on a sun-drenched Leisure Centre Pitch.

The early exchanges were fairly balanced with both teams having chances but once Moley took the lead through , the energy seemed to drain from the Hornsea players and victory never looked in doubt.

Winning the ball in his own half after a Hornsea corner, Dixon broke through the heart of the defence and simply outpaced all pursuers to finish coolly in the corner much to the delight of the home support.

Another fine move from Molescroft saw Tony “T Bone” Walker beat the offside trap and slide the ball across the face of the goal, leaving Spruce with an easy tap in for his 29th of the season to force home the advantage just before half-time.

The start of the second half saw Hornsea pile on the pressure but Molescroft simply soaked this up and then hit Hornsea with a sucker punch with Spruce scoring his second of the game from close range.

Moley added a fourth with twenty minutes to go with Spruce completing his hat trick and then saw the remainder of the game out with their opponents rarely looking like scoring.
