Beverley in Bloom Supporters News: Issue 1

Welcome to all our new volunteers!  This is the latest news on what is happening with .

At present we are visiting schools, garden centres and local youth groups to see how they can help us to make beautiful.

Already four schools have shown their interest and Focus DIY have offered to to provide compost, plants and containers for any school that gets involved.

We are also liaising with WorkLink, the East Riding employment support group based at Cottingham that has both garden furniture making and plant nursery initiatives and also with suppliers who have been involved with providing plants in the past.  We aim to use as many local producers as possible to support businesses in the area.

We feel that ‘Guerrilla ’ would be very helpful and a challenge to those who chose to do this.  For example, planting around street signs where possible or in any uncared for areas.  Neighbours, family or friends in your area could help to do this.

If you think that you have found a possible site do let us know as it is vitally important that it is marked on a map so that the council do not use weed killers there.

You may even wish to grow your own plants which you could find very rewarding and hopefully again Focus may be able to provide some seeds.

Focus are also having a ‘Family and Friends Event’ between March 4th and 13th when they are giving 20% off everything in their store plus 10% off No Frills.   For their online sit visit focusdiy.co.uk and enter the code FRIENDS11 at the checkout.  Alternatively we have some cards that can be used at the tills.

In our newsletter we plan to let you know what help will be needed for planting up the barrels, troughs, containers and hanging baskets in the town centre.

Planting is usually around May time so we will give more details nearer the time.

Thank you to all our volunteers who came to the ‘Spring Board’ event and said that they would support us in making Beverley in Bloom a success.

We can be contacted on 01482 874096 at the office in Well Lane if you have any questions or suggestions.
