More Success For Beverley AC in Pocklington

Beverley Athletic Club athletes turned out in force for the Snake Lane 10 mile race around Pocklington last Sunday.

With excellent potential for setting a personal best, the flat course always attracts a strong field and the 39 Beverley athletes were competing against some of the fastest runners in Yorkshire.

With the race also a designated handicap race for Beverley there was the added incentive of handicap points.

The handicap was won by who beat his predicted time by an impressive 2½ minutes.  In second place was Pam Atkins who was almost 2 minutes faster than her handicap time.  She was also the first LV65 to finish.  Mark Dalton had an excellent run, finishing in 60.20, three minutes faster than his best time over this distance last year.  He was sixth in his age category and scored an age grade of 82%

James Pearson led the Beverley contingent home.  He finished in eleventh place overall and in a new personal best time of 56.07.  He beat his predicted time by 34 seconds and came fifth in the handicap.  With Mark Dalton and Steve Peacock on form the three of them formed the team which came fourth in the team competition.

The first Beverley lady to finish was Julie Donald.  She completed the course in 71.51and was tenth in her age group.  Lucy Stamford followed her over the line in 73.12 finishing fifth in her age category and setting a new personal best time.  Claire Traynor was the next Beverley lady to finish and along with Donald and Stamford formed the ladies team which finished third behind Valley Striders and Redcar Running Club.

For it was the first race of more than 10k for over a year and she was surprised and delighted to beat her previous best time over this distance by almost two minutes.

It was a disappointing day for Alan Flint who has achieved some fine performances since joining the club last year.  He pulled a muscle between miles 3 and 4 and was transported back to the start by ambulance.

There were 662 finishers and the race was won by Ricky Stevenson of New Marske Harriers in 48.03.  The first lady to finish was Louise Brown of Scarborough AC in 59.59.
