Snaith First Beverley Runner Home in Ferriby 10

Twenty athletes from Athletic Club competed in the Ferriby 10 last weekend.  It was the first club handicap race of the year and conditions were perfect for the challenging ten mile road race which starts and finishes at Skidby Mill.

Rob Snaith was the first Beverley runner to cross the line.  He completed the course in a new personal best time of 56.22 and finished in fifth position overall.  He admitted to going out a bit too fast in the hilly first half of the race which left him unable to push as hard as he would have liked on the flatter second half of the course.  Snaith has been training hard for the London Marathon and is feeling confident that he can improve still further.

Steve Jackson also had an excellent run.  He came third in the M45 category, finishing 3 minutes faster than last year and setting a new personal best time of 61.18.

Darren Rodmell has improved steadily during the last twelve months and finished 6 minutes faster than last year.  Other Beverley runners who improved on last year’s times were Paul Burnley, Jacqui Dickinson and Olly Johnston while Lucas Meagor recorded his best time for a ten mile race in two years.

It was a difficult race for James Pearson who is usually the first Beverley runner to finish.  Despite feeling unwell he decided to go ahead and run.  He finished the course but in a much slower time than usual.

In a repeat of last week’s positions in the Brass Monkey half-marathon, was the first Beverley lady to finish, just ahead of Lucy Stamford who set a new personal best time for the ten mile distance.

finished first in the F65 category.

There were 503 finishers and the race was won by Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC in 53.05.  The first lady to finish was Jenny Blizard of Rotherham Harriers in 58.13.
