Fashion Display of Students’ Work @ The Treasure House

A collection of fashions by East Riding students goes on display at the Treasure House, Beverley from 15 February.

The outfits have been made from pre-worn clothing, including from charity shops, to show how to give garments a new lease of life.

The fashions will be entries submitted by students at and Bishop Burton College as part of the council’s competition to highlight the 3,000 tonnes of clothes sent to landfill every year by local residents.

The fashion display will be open to view until Saturday, 26 February in the library foyer.  The is also going to feature an Exploring event on Tuesday, 22 February from 10am-3.30pm.

This half-term day of recycling activities for families and children will be led by the council’s waste and recycling officers.

The theme is reducing, re-using and recycling waste, with activities including making crafts from recycled materials.  Turn up on the day as there is no need to book, and stay as long as you like.

Curator, Sally Hayes, said: “There are some surprising things that can be done with materials that we something think of as waste and throw away.

“The fashion display will show new and fashion clothing can be made out of things we have discarded. Crafts can be made from anything, such as cardboard and textiles.”

will also be entering into the spirit by using the recycling theme for its weekly Story Times session. The sessions are open to pre-school children, but older ones can attend during the holiday.
