Alice in Wonderland @ Longcroft School

In 1865, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, under the pseudonym of Lewis Carroll, published his most well-loved and popular book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Telling the tale of a curious girl who follows a white rabbit to a fantastical world of talking animals and living playing cards, the novel was an instant hit.  With witty puns, social satire and mathematical whimsy, it struck a chord with Victorian readers and has done so with every generation since.

Despite being 146 years old, it has never been out of print and has influenced many other writers, artists, playwrights and film directors.  From the vanishing grin of the Cheshire Cat and the pitiful sobs of the Mock Turtle, to the lunacy of the Mad Hatter’s tea party and the execution cries of the Queen of Hearts, everyone who either loves the book or has seen the adaptations, will have their own opinion of what Wonderland and its strange inhabitants are like.

’s production brought a dynamic and creative look to the varied characters of Wonderland.  With a combination of traditional stage techniques and modern , the audience saw the tale with fresh eyes and enjoyed the school’s interpretation of this classic story.

Coincidentally, the final night of the production, Thursday 27th February, would have been Charles Dodgson’s birthday, marking the 179th year of his birth.
