Humberside Police: Beverley St Mary’s Update for November 2010

Anti Social Behaviour – Molescroft  -This month has seen a great deal of challenges for the Neighbourhood Team with events that are planned for well in advance such as the Beverley Bonfire and others less prepared for as the arctic conditions which have gripped not only Beverley but the UK towards the end of the month.

From the teams perspective the Beverley Bonfire was a great event which attracted large numbers to Beverley Westwood on a cold clear night to enjoy the fireworks and bonfire supplied.  Once again this year due in no small part to the strong Police presence and ongoing work addressing the access routes in and out of the event in partnership with the East Riding Council, the evening went well.

After the event, we did have problems around Tesco’s on Walkergate where a large group of youths had gathered, many were from Hull and not from Beverley.  Two juvenile males were arrested for offences committed outside the store and they have now been to court.  Anti Social Behaviour Orders have been applied for, for these two individuals, who have also committed a number of other offences across Beverley.

The snow which followed has led to an increase in reports of minor anti social behaviour relating to calls for service due to snowballing and Fairway notices have been issued to several youths regarding their inappropriate use of snowballs targeting them at persons and addresses.

Checks have been made throughout the wintry conditions and groups spoken to.  As we reach the end of November I am glad to update that a number of youths who have been heavily involved in anti social behaviour across the whole of Beverley over the Summer and continue to do so have recently been dealt with by Police for numerous offences and are now are now subject of applications for Anti Social Behaviour Orders.

Issue: – Parking Obstructions – Waltham Court and Mill Lane – Checks have continued in the area regarding the parking issues and further enforcement has continued.

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions that have hit the area towards the end of the month enforcement has not been undertaken as the parking restrictions marked on the road have not been visible.

There have been no further complaints regarding the parking in this area made during this month and further checks will continue to be made in the coming month.

Issue: – Crime Prevention – Festive Crime Initiative – The festive crime initiative has progressed through liaison with the Humberside Police media and marketing unit.  Packs are being compiled to be sent out to elderly residents in Beverley containing information on personal safety along with a useful contact numbers list to be kept alongside the telephone for emergency use.

Dates are still being finalised for events to be held around Beverley to allow for members of the public to come and meet the team and express any concerns / raise any issues with the officers who will deal with the reports.

More details of this project will be reported in the local media and through the internet update over the coming month along with details of where the events shall be held and on what dates.

Offenders brought to justice

A male juvenile was charged with four offences of criminal damage, a public order offence and assaulting a Police Officer and will be attending Beverley Court in December.

A further male juvenile was charged with three criminal damage offences and will be attending Beverley Court in December.

A male juvenile was charged for persistent possession of alcohol, two public order offences and a criminal damage offence.

A female juvenile was charged with a public order offence.

A male adult was issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice following being stopped for theft from Tesco’s, Beverley.

A female adult was issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice following a report of a criminal damage offence.

During the current cold weather Humberside Police are advising motorists and residents to take added care whilst going about their daily business.

Forged £10 Notes
Recently a quantity of forged £10 notes have been passed in shops around the Beverley area, these notes have been identified as forgeries by the shops and enquiries are ongoing regarding their origin.  These notes are recognisable due to the feel of the paper and when the notes are creased or folded the ink will separate leaving a white line which would not appear on a real bank note.  Should any residents have any concerns regarding any money that they come into contact with they can contact the Neighbourhood Team on the details below for advice, alternately attend at Beverley Police Station.

Keep Your Presents For Your Loved Ones
As we near Christmas the threat of crime is again with us and for this Festive time of year I would like to encourage a ‘no victim – no crime’ approach from all.  The crimes regularly associated with Christmas such as thefts from unattended motor vehicles and dwelling burglaries are all too often a case where valuable items have been left on view as an attraction to would be criminals.

Humberside Police as always plead with residents and visitors to consider how others view there houses and their vehicles and to make sure that no items of value are left on view or items which would lead a would be thief or burglar to believe valuable items were present (such as laptop cases, phone chargers within cars).
